This Time Five Years Ago…

The seed that my very first birth experience planted for me...

This time five years ago, my life was changing - and I had no idea how much, beyond the evolution of becoming a mother.

Surges were coming, thick and fast.

I was clutching the toilet, rocking back and forth. S was on his way.

We'd spent a month tucked safely in our homes, the pandemic raging on outside while we slowly, intentionally prepared for his birth.

I’d never had a baby before. Every sensation was new. And not all of them felt like I expected. It felt long. Unrelenting.

Pressure in my back (thanks for being back to back, babes). The thing that kept me going?

My own mind.

I’ve never shared this before - but inner Hannah was coaching me like never before.

“When the next one comes, we’re going to drop our shoulders.

We’re going to breathe. We’re going to rock.

And he’s coming. He’s coming. He’s coming.

You’re fucking strong. Look at how powerful you are. Everything you need is within you.”

That first birth experience - bringing him to my chest in our living room with only the pool, my mind and my breath - completely changed the course of my life.

How could I do anything but help other women feel that powerful?

And so the doula and hypnobirthing journey began.

It’s been a long five years.

This path has stretched me, tested me, and expanded me in ways I never expected. But it is the greatest adventure I’ve ever had the honour of walking.

Five years old. So little. Yet so independent. So big - and still so tiny when he curls into my arms at night.

He reminds me every single day why I chose to leave the old path behind and do this work.

Because every woman I have the joy, honour and pleasure of supporting deserves to feel this powerful…
